Brian and the Bear"Ugh," moaned Brian at the middle of the night. He was awakened by his rumbling stomach and the rolling jolts of pain. Brian crawled out the entrance and vomited with terrible diarrhea. It took him hours and hours to to make himself empty. After that, Brian crawled back into his shelter and fell to the sand but couldn't sleep. He could do nothing except lie and decided to remember the memory again. His mother. In the mall, his mother sitting in station wagon with a man. His mother leaned and kissed the man with short blonde hair. "It was not a friendly peck, it was a kiss," Brian thought.
He saw this thing, his mother kissing the blonde man, that his father still did not know about. He felt that the memory was so real. But it faded and Brian fell to sleep again. |
Brian didn't sleep until the sun rose. As soon as he woke up, he smelled the awful smell of the berries. Then he saw the pile of berries at the back of the shelter and remembered the night and being sick. There were too many of them. Too many gut cherries. He crawled outside of the shelter and cleaned what he'd messed the sand. He used cleans sticks and put clean sands on top of it. It was very early when he woke up so he went to the lake and he realized and thought that he was very ugly. "No. no. no. Stop it Brian," he said to himself, stopping the pityness to himself. Brian cried and cried but soon he realized that self-pity can't help him.
Brian got in the shelter and brushed the maroon and black berries off. The red and perfectly ripe one, he started eating. He threw the over ripe berries into the lake. After eating, Brian was still hungry. He went back to the shelter. He sorted the berries and it took him for half an hour. Brian put the fully ripe berries in a leaf and the rest of the berries in the other one. After that, he looked for better berries. He went to the forest and there, he saw bushes full of berries. While picking, he heard a crack. It was a branch of a tree. Brian looked back and he gasped.
There was a bear behind him! It was picking berries, like him. He went close to the bear but the bear didn’t notice him. ¨It’s lost and it must be hungry,¨ he thought. The bear groaned. It must’ve seen Brian. He didn’t move a muscle. Brian was scared but he tried not to be noticed. The bear still noticed Brian. It came up to him and it groaned. Brian still didn’t move but he’s surprised of what happened.
The bear licked him. Brian smiled. He waited for a minute or two then he patted the bear’s back. The bear might’ve like Brian. Brian did too. They enjoyed each other’s company. While going to the shelter, Brian noticed something. There was a wound in the bear’s arms and legs. Brian is curious about that. He wanted to ask the bear but he knows it won’t answer him. When they arrived in Brian’s shelter, the bear cried. ¨It might be experiencing something,¨ Brian asked himself. But Brian didn’t really care. They ate the berries and they enjoyed their time together.
In the morning, Brian was ready to go hunting. He woke the bear up but it didn’t move. It didn’t move any muscle. He tried his best to wake it up. Brian he even took water from the lake. The bear won’t wake up. Brian knelt beside the bear and hugged it. Tears started to fall down until he fell asleep again. Brian only met him day ago but he loved the bear so much.
